Not My Will, But Yours
Are you being swallowed up by broken pieces and dreams?
Is life going better than you could have ever thought possible?
No matter what end of the spectrum we are on, or where we find ourselves in the middle, we must remind ourselves to constantly be checking who's will we are walking out. In His final moments facing death, Jesus gave us a simple, yet powerful phrase to set as a barometer for our lives. In Luke 22 He said “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”showing us EXACTLY how we should approach our lives.
When life seems to be drowning us as we sort out the shattered pieces that surround, we can choose to seek Him and trust in His plans and purposes, or we can choose to go our own way that is most certainly going to be chock full of anxiety, fear, bitterness and beyond. If we make the decision to trust His will we will surely be filled with peace beyond anything we can understand. There are times in all of our lives where our circumstances are just TOO MUCH. Only He can give us everything we NEED in those seasons (and in every other one).
And, when we are feeling more blessed than we could have imagined and life seems like it can't get much better, we have to consciously fight the urge to go our own way, because we can be duped into thinking we have all it takes to keep it all together. Our vision for our own lives just might not match God's and we may end up finding ourselves having it all and being wildly empty.
If we claim to be a Christian, truly the best way to live is to continually say and live by "Not my will, but yours" because we can be certain that HIS will is 100% of the time better than ours no matter what is happening around us.
